BACKGROUND
The 17th Winter Deaflympic Games will be held during 11-20 February, 2011, in High Tatras, Slovakia. High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry) is the winter centre in the heart of Europe and is the smallest high mountain in the northern part of a rather young country – Slovakia. The country is known around the world as the host of the 1970 World Nordic Championship.
This could be your once-in-a-lifetime experience to participate as an Athlete, Coach or as part of the Support Staff for the Australian Deaflympic Team at the next Winter Deaflympic Games. This world-class sporting and social event for Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes and friends from around the world needs a strong Australian Team.
Australia has a proud history at the Winter Deaflympic Games which is highlighted by skiing legend Andrew Swann who is a 6 time Gold medallist. We are now looking for the next generation of champions.
To be eligible to compete you must be:
* an Australian Citizen;
* have a Hearing Loss of at least 55dB in the better ear (athletes only);
* Meet minimum qualification standards and DSA selection criteria;
The key sports competed at during the Winter Deaflympics are Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboard and Curling.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM (EOI)
If you are interested in competing the first step is to contact Deaf Sports Australia and obtain a first round Expression of Interest form to complete to register your interest. To obtain the form contact DSA Manager Craig Dodson at craig.dodson@deafsports.org.au
