An extraordinary event, where for the first time a major international sport event was held in Australia. Over 3500 deaf athletes and officials participated in the Games with our largest ever Australian team and supported financially by the Australian and Victorian governments. Described as the ‘best ever’ Deaflympic Games which significantly raised the profile of deaf sport in Australia.
